Foster's Quay in Hatteras Village is the starting point of a memorable cruise aboard one of the historic boats of the Albatross Fleet.
Climb aboard the Albatross, the boat that started the sport fishing industry at Hatteras in 1937.
Captain Ernie Foster, owner and legendary sport fishing guide expertly guides the Albatross from her moor into the harbor as he has done for over 60 years.
Near sundown what was a hub of activity for most of the day settles into a serene and sleepy harbor.
Be sure to bring your camera because there are plenty of photo opportunities along the way.
On one side of the harbor are the ubiquitous docks which provide dockage for pleasure, commercial and sport fishing boats.
Opposite the docks on the harbor are pristine salt marshes teaming with many different species of shore birds. including.....
Commercial fishing boats moored after a working day.
Captain Ernie shares many points of interest and relates stories of local color.
The salt marsh is the nursery of many commercial fish.
Rental homes dot the shore side with breath taking views of Pamlico Sound.

Following the channel towards the southwest, the second half of the cruise follows the Pamlico Sound shoreline of the Village. This inland body of water is a part of a vast sound system in NC which ranks among the largest of the world.
With a gentle breeze, the chug of the boat's motor and the sound of the boat cutting through the water, good friends enjoy each other's company surrounded by uncluttered miles of beautiful water, sky, and a setting sun.
It is the rounded stern that sets the Albatross boats apart from all the rest...
...along with their candy cane red and white stripped outriggers.
This is one of several ferries that carries passengers from Hatteras to her sister island, Ocracoke.
No where but here in Pamlico Sound can one feel closer to nature than watching a setting sun from the stern of the floating legend named Albatross.
The cruise concludes by returning to the main harbor via Rollinson's Channel. Another memory is added to your collection, one filled with such beauty that it will last you a lifetime.
Join us for an evening cruise on one of the historic Albatross Fleet boats as we glide slowly through the harbor and up the back creek passing working fish houses and commercial boats and an unspoiled marsh with abundant bird life. Then sail into Pamlico Sound before returning to our dock.
